At The Moorings guest house we are very proud to have been awarded the Gold award
for Green tourism in our second assessment in May 2010
(Initially Assessed in 2009 we where awarded Silver)
This structured apraisal has highlighted how many initiatives we had already implemented and has enabled us to focus on what we can do to continously improve our practises and reduce our impact on the enviroment both locally and globally
This emphasis is of course intended to compliment our main goal which is to never compromise from offering our guests the best level of comfort, cleanliness and service we can acheive.
We both take an active interest in our environment and have made efforts to ensure we reduce, reuse & recycle all of our waste items where ever possible
The Initiatives currently in place are as follows
1, All Paper, Card, Glass, Plastics & Tin items are recycled via local authority supplied services
2, Ink Cartridges are returned for reuse by supplier (Dell)
3, All light bulbs (except one) have been changed to energy saving bulbs
4, We have replaced our water feed pipe to ensure no water is lost due to leakage from old pipes
5, We have recently (end 2008) replaced our old boiler, with modern condensing highly efficient boilers
6, Our hotwater is pre heated by our 6sq m of solar panels (installed end 2008)
7, We have selected to ensure the cleaning products we use are from enviromentally acredited sources and that our paper products are from sustainbly responcible supplier.
8, The car we use for the business is a very fuel effcient Smart Car, which emits very low level of CO2, Also this is only used when nessesary.
9, Where possible food shoping is undertaken online for delivery services by major supermarkets are recognisd to be an improvement in terms of environmental impact and also benifts the food being better preserved right to the house
Initiatives we are planning to impliment further soon
1, Increase insulation in our limited roof spaces
2, Use of recycled paper product where ever possible/available
